Business of Data event: UNSW Business School

30 April: The Business of Data event included a panel discussion plus the re-launch of UNSW BusinessThink

The panel included Anastasia Cammaroto, Westpac; Nicolas Chu, Founder of Sinorbis; Peter Leonard, UNSW and Hilda Clune, PwC Global. Hilda is responsible for the introduction of Google IT systems across 158 offices of PwC globally. The panellists spoke about the amount and use of data globally and the privacy implications that brings. Data breaks down traditional competitive barriers. It is an asset – in the sense of a “potentiality of rights”. The panel touched on the internet of things – 5 to 7 billion people are connected with 25 billion devices connected. A key message was how to use data to differentiate yourself in the marketplace. Bad data science is the biggest challenge today as there is a shortage of good data scientists/analysts – there is a gap between Government and the private sector in this regard and B to B is lagging behind B to C.

BusinessThink is a renewed digital platform to empower industry to engage with the University’s research ideas and evidence, and to collaborate with researchers at UNSW Business School.
