Reports and Summits

Highlights from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare May 28 Report - Disability support services: services provided under the National Disability Agreement 2017–18

The proportion of service users with an intellectual or learning disability has fallen. About 1 in 3 (37%) of services users had an intellectual or learning disability, down from almost 1 in 2 (44%) in 2013–14. The decrease in the proportion of service users with intellectual or learning disability in the last 5 years is largely the result of the transition of these service users into the NDIS. About 3 in 4 service users were unemployed. Almost three-quarters (71%) of service users aged 15 and over who were in the labour force were unemployed. The 24 page report has some valuable data.

Tuesday 18th June, 2019 – Inclusion Ready Summit in Qld

CSIA is the host of this Summit that will bring together thought leaders to engage with the idea that building social and economic inclusion is everybody’s business. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), is designed to operate as an inclusive growth framework, enabling supports for a better life for people with disability as citizens in the community. As part of this effort, across Australia the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is delivering the Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program through grants to fund creative, innovative, accessible and inclusive projects for people with disabilities. CSIA is delivering the Inclusion Ready project to support organisations, businesses and communities to better understand inclusion, as well as navigating and preparing for ILC activities and opportunities. Inclusion of people with disabilities creates a strong economy by enabling a diverse community contribution which drives future growth. “To deliver this growth we need to work together to build an inclusive and sustainable future for the Community Services Industry, business and the wider community. Join CSIA and key speakers, thought leaders, experts, and hear the latest research, ideas and opportunities exploring how we can learn more about, create, lead and develop inclusion in our communities and organisations”. The program includes speakers like Professor Bruce Bonyhady OM, Katie Barton-Harvey, Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour and Remarkable Founder Peter Horsley.
