NDIS Registration Groups Explained
The NDIA have implemented various requirements governing the way registered NDIS providers operate to ensure people with a disability get the best outcomes from NDIS funding. One requirement involves choosing the correct ‘registration groups’.
We simplified registration requirements, including Certification and Verification, in the graphic below.

The graphic shows there are 36 registration groups in total. There are 24 lower risk groups which can be further split into non-services and services. There are 8 higher risk groups and 5 specialist or higher risk modules.
Verification
Providers registering for the lower risk groups must undergo the verification module. They must have evidence of relevant qualifications as well as incident, complaints and risk management policies. This includes regulation through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
A change was introduced in January 2020 for companies. Companies are now eligible to undergo Verification audit if they provide low risk registration groups only.

Certification
All providers registering for higher risk groups must be certified against the NDIS Practice Standards. Certification audits must be completed by an approved quality auditor. Core capabilities assessed under this process include:
How the provider manages risk
The provision of supports
The environment in which supports are provided
Governance and operational management.
Providers applying for complex supports must complete the NDIS Practice Standard’s core module.
For some higher-risk supports, relevant supplementary modules need to be completed. These are Modules 1-5. These need to be completed if:
You are working with children
You are in someone’s home
You are handling someone's money
You are having to use restraints
Please be aware of the audit changes for sole traders and partners registering for both ‘Early Childhood’ and ‘Therapeutic Supports.’
